Best foot forward

I cleaned out the bottom of  my closet this morning, while The Husband was out golfing.  I'm tired of hearing him bitch about my piles of shoes (there wouldn't be piles of shoes if he didn't insist on just chucking any of my shoes he finds into the bottom of the closet willy-nilly...)

Seriously, y'all, I had no idea how many pairs of shoes I actually have.  I've never counted them.  Well, now I've not only counted them, I've categorized them.  Now I just need storage to keep them neatly in their categories.

I've got dress shoes- your standard pumps, slingbacks, a pair of high heeled mules...Those all fit in the shoe rack next to the bed, the one I use as a nightstand.  That's a dozen taken care of right off the bat.

Boots can all stand on their own in the closet, tall ones lined up along the back wall, with their ankle-high counterparts standing in front nine pairs, with the appropriate distribution of color and heel height).  The casual shoes don't take up  much space; the sneakers/clogs/slippers are in the minority at seven, so there's no need to make more than one layer.

The dress-casual shoes (low heeled or flat mules, ballet flats, loafers, espadrilles and the like) are a bit trickier.  Some are dainty, and can easily be lost in the crowd of nineteen.  Same problem with sandals, since the combination of flip-flops, casual flat sandals, strappy heels, kitten heeled mules and those preppy fisherman sandals and leather thongs bring that group to a whopping seventeen.

And the one pair of special occaision shoes, the satiny rhinestone trimmed black heels that only leave their box once or twice a year, can remain in their aloofness in the same corner they've lived in ever since I purchased them.

I think a trip to the Container Store is in order.  I love to buy storage units, even more than I love to buy shoes!

Whine and cheese

My head...is hurting and full of congestion and infection and such.  (Sinusitis, possible strep throat, beginnings of bronchitis)  My antibiotics will be taken until the morning I leave for my meeting.

The Elder Son...he is out of control.  The person who runs the after-school care has banned him, and the principal called yesterday at lunchtime for me to come take him home because he was too distruptive.  I have read The Explosive Child from cover to cover this week, and he has an appointment with his psychologist as soon as she is back in town next week.

Today is my deadline for getting the materials sent out for my meeting, and I just received the final pieces of information this morning.  The Head Lawyer (who happens to be my boss) needs to look at it all one last time, but she is in meetings non-stop.

My cubicle in the new building is about as far away from the kitchen as is possible, meaning that I have to hike in order to fix myself a freaking cup of herbal tea.  And the copier is quite close, as the crow flies, but because I need to walking completely around the entire bank of cubicles, then backtrack down the hallway to actually access it because there is no walkway,  it is also a hike.  And I need to print covers for the briefing books, but I only have access to network printers, and don't want anyone to print their email on my cover stock.

Wah.
